literary exercise #2.
This prompt comes from my own noggin: Take an old title of a blog post, & re-work it into a short narrative.
Everything about her was subtle yet dramatic. Lydia’s foot tapped perfectly in 6/8 time on the scuffed hardwood floor. She pursed her lips on a re-lit cigarette from the pack she always pretended to smoke and let out a feigned sigh. “I’ll tell you a secret,...

I’m going to start free writing every day based on prompts from a little writing inspiration book I have. We’ll see where this leads my subconscious mind. I’ll include the complete un-edited randomness that may or may not suck in my lil’ place on the interweb.
My first prompt (and feel free to steal these for your own creative purposes): What are you waiting for? If not...

I’ll be getting my food photography on a lot in the upcoming months for a project, but for others interested, check out the link above. Everyone loves a lil’ food porn now and then!

We our losing our print media. It is dying, dying, dying, going the same way as anything pre-MP3, blog or on demand streaming content…and that makes me slightly sad, sad, sad. Without print media, there are no glamorous feature stories that take us somewhere far away, somewhere special, somewhere better than where you are at the moment. There’s always something that pixels on a screen...
Pointing out the fact that there are a zillion songs with the same chord progression never annoyed me until I started writing music. Then I realized that there’s nothing you can do, and I should stop singing other songs over other people’s music, ‘cause it’ll just piss them off. :)
In my opinion, the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for...

From my dear friend, jwcole:
“In truth, developing standards is a recipe for being let down. Enlightenment is a ship that sets sail in the opposite direction of love & fulfillment & contentment. It’s a burden, & it will drag you kicking & screaming away from happiness. Self-awareness takes hold of you like the ocean’s undercurrent.
Ignorance is bliss, & bliss is what...
your vs. you're →
Call this link a part of my passive-aggressive side, but the “Your vs. You’re” grammatical issue is one of my biggest pet peeves. I get some serious heebie jeebies when I see people write “your cool,” or “you’re sweater looked nice today,” especially when they are seemingly intelligent.
People, people, people. It’s not hard. They teach you...

As the owner of 2 superb digital SLRs and 2 film SLRs, I still sorta have a penchant for really crappy cameras. I own 5 plastic toy cameras, 2 polaroids, + a digital point & shoot.
So, it should come as no surprise that I am quite fascinated with the little 2 megapixel buddy that comes attached to my favorite technology gadget that Steve Jobs and his minions have kicked out in the past...
A bit late on this one, but here is The Films’ “It’s Christmas (What’s the Difference?)” music video, chock full of more stop motiony goodness.
It’s a not-so-secret that I am in love with this band, and they made my last few weeks in Hollywood an even bigger party.
I can’t wait for you all to hear their new record. It rules.

Ha! Love it. Let’s not forget Brazilian Girls, who were ahead of the whole trend.

“Girls” are clearly in line to be the new black/wolf/f**k/crystals for 09. So far we’ve got Vivian Girls, U.S. Girls, “My Girls,” and just Girls (not to mention Women), and now, riding the dirty wave of ultra lo-fi yet extremely melodic/endlessly hummable noise-pop that seems to be building right now...
it just struck me that i really get a kick out of doing drastic things, solely because i can.

I have never been so excited to go back to Los Angeles.
I am going to be there with some of my favorite people to exist on this planet, and we are going to have so much fun that I’m going to try and convince them to never come back. We can live in corporate housing forever in Toluca Hills and sing bad karaoke songs every night at Dimples.

I’ll link Obama’s speech text to spare you all from having to scroll through the entire thing, but my God, what an amazing piece of rhetoric. If this speech didn’t instill any hope, desire or faith in you as a human being and as an American citizen, then we should make sure you are actually alive.
xoxoxo. What a day.
2008 on my hard drive, inspired by my dear friend Adam. Shot via Nikon D70, Nikon D90, Canon 5D, and a Canon Powershot 600 or something like that. It’s been fun.
I would really appreciate it if you do not take snapshots or stills of the images in this video and re-distribute them. This was our year, and I debated whether or not I would put this up because I don’t want my work to be...

A song by The Fray that I heard when I saw them play at the Greek Theater in Hollywood…July 2007ish? They were on the last stretch of their final tour for that crazy record will all the hits. It’s quite the song lyrically. I believe it’s about the lead singer’s grandmother dying, but there’s a lot more inside. The line “Happiness was never mind to hold”...

I’ve been discussing this notion a lot lately with friends who are on the move +exploring new chapters in their lives. I am always onto a new chapter because I feel like I am wasting time otherwise.
Filmmaker RJ Cutler, director of The September Issue, which will be showing at Sundance this year. His film follows the legendary, notorious Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour around for a year and documents the making of one issue. Quite exciting. I love how frighteningly together and commanding she always is. Can’t wait to see the documentary. xoxo.
