my hair smells like fun. and if you want to know what fun smells like, it’s an appropriate blend of girl + someone else’s cigarette smoke.

– Hunter S. Thompson, as shared today by Mike.
i may not have much, but i do have that camera, and these words, and this pen, and these pixels, and these keys, and those strings, and that’s all i really need.
In this video, we see the interactive Sonic Wire Sculpture (demo’d by collaborator James Patterson) in action. By drawing lines within the 3d space, a musical piece is created. It’s just the tip of the iceberg for the body of work that is possible with this installation.

Jack's Mannequin at the Troubadour →
Another link to the Lefsetz Letter. I never got into Jack’s Mannequin or Something Corporate, but I had plenty of friends who did…The only memory I have of them is random - I once went to see Hanson with Butch + we hung out with Andrew + the guitarist….but none of that is relevant. What matters is how Lefsetz describes the crowd, oh-so-perfectly. I know this demographic....
REALLY?
via my friend Michelle. Yikes. I get it, the music industry is dying, and we all need to find ways to make money, but these food items sound like a heart attack + a half, and the names are just mildly barf-inducing. The publicist that wrote this release must be cringing and laughing…I remember going to Denny’s late one night this Summer with Greta and Robert, since it was the only...

truth.
do we tell? or should we just keep letting them find out by way of cracks in doors and haphazard grins? they say she should be worried, but all the while, it’s me in the midst of an identity crisis that belongs to someone else this is not my burden to carry, it isn’t my own personal hell. so cry, cry, cry, ‘cause you know i’ll be smiling and i’ll try, try, try, to...
I Need To Stop Soon →
My co-worker’s friend, Marc Horowitz. He’s done lots of amusing, ridiculous things that have landed him on billboards in Times Square and on Good Morning America. He reminds me so much of my friend Adam, in a good way.
BRIAN!
Meet Professor Brian Fishman, PhD of the School of Fish. Formerly known as Muddy (or Waters - we don’t really know since his identical friend sharing the same bowl passed away), sometimes known as Fishface, and I believe he also had a brief stint as “Steve” or something equally ridiculous.
Never have I ever been so attached to a fish. But man, Brian is full of quirk and spunk....
in lieu of Fmaj / Gmin / Amaj in 6/8 time.
why did i ever try to write a lullaby for a smile that turned to a smoke screen of lies? sheer comfort drills empty skulls dry with neither mind nor heart, lacking any sense of charm. and oh, how mediocrity bores me, with its loathsome wanderer, sick with disdain & the remains - filled with charred ashes of gold medals and crowning achievements that glimmer within arms reach, though the...

– “More Adventurous,” Rilo Kiley.
everybody's doing it.
Meet the Netipot - also known as the “nose douche” in more colloquial terms, as I’ve been told. I’m only writing about it because it fascinates me, and apparently all of my friends find it equally amusing / useful.
The netipot entered my life about 2 weeks ago when Greta said she was feeling a crazy sinus infection creeping upon her. My old roommates Niki + Lauren (also...
irving calls.
I get the Lefsetz Letter. So do a lot of people in the music industry. And even though I don’t read all of his emails, I can’t help but appreciate his tenacity and enthusiasm for music and the business, even after all of these years. Today, Irving Azoff’s management company was bought up by Ticketmaster, and it’s a HUGE deal because now an artist manager is in charge of THE...

ART IS EVERYWHERE
It’s just the way you perceive life.
does he love you?
I’ve been listening to Rilo Kiley’s More Adventurous a bunch lately, with this song on repeat. It’s so overdramatic, but I think it’s great…It brings me back to memories of warm weather, and I just love the line, “I am flawed if I’m not free.”
Get a real job Keep the wind at your back and the sun on your face All the immediate unknowns Are better...

…and moreso then that, check out their endorsement. It made my heart warm with happiness, not because they endorsed Barack Obama, but because how well written the entire endorsement is.

Everything is OK.
“Today, Everything is OK exists as a kind of social design experiment in subversive positivism. It explores the relationship between medium and message, challenges accepted modes of communication, and provides everyday citizens with tools for social commentary. We read “Everything is OK” as both an affirmative phrase and a condemning indictment of mediocrity — a tension that...

Boston.com’s fantastic photojournalism section. The work here is inspiring and amazing. Definitely worth putting in your RSS feeds / bookmarks to look at on a normal basis.
sigh.
my mother makes me smile. she told me “that sarah palin woman is retarded,” and then asked me what i was doing. when i told her, “trying to finish writing a song,” she just said, “well you keep on doing that. i know you’ll make us really proud one day with those songs of yours.”
xoxo mom. thanks for not making me feel completely silly.
